The 'TABLES' should be regarded as a bit of fun and merely an indication of the show results from those shows that sought our patronage and have made a return of their results. The SPC recognizes that fanciers do exhibit at a great many more shows.

One point is awarded for a best unflighted cock or hen at full patronage shows. Three points are awarded for a best unflighted cock or hen at full patronage shows.Five points are awarded for a best unflighted cock or hen at special patronage shows. Ten points are awarded for a best unflighted cock or hen at the club show. The table below will be updated on a monthly basis. An update to this webpage (Nov 27, 2004) added the latest 2004 tables but left all other tables in place. An update to this webpage (Nov 15, 2003) added the 2003 tables (but left the 2002) below. ..an update ,February 2004,has confirmed the winners position.The winners of the quaichs for Scottish PREMIER LEAGUE,SOUTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE,NOVICES LEAGUE FOR 2003 are Messrs W.TEMPERLEY AND S.BELLAMY,J.ROBY,D. PURCELL.Well done and congratulations on your consistency and quality at shows throughout the year.

No League competition took place in 2007 owing to the disruption of the show season brought about by government bans at the onset of bird ‘flu.

SHOW HAD MANY GOOD BIRDS AND WAS WELL RUN WITH GOOD STEWARDS AND ORGANISATION. IT WAS UP WITH THE STANDARDS OF THE PAST AT BRUNTON HALLS. SCOTTISH BIRDS STILL NEED TO IMPROVE, NEED SUBSTANCE, BETTER FEATHER - TOO MUCH HARD FEATHER IS IN EVIDENCE IN SCOTTISH BIRDS WHICH ARE ALSO TOO LONG.

ON THE WINNERS - BEST IN SHOW HAD GOOD SUBSTANCE, VERY GOOD TYPE AND GREAT FEATHER. IT WAS A VERY STEADY BIRD ALL OF THE TIME AND SHOWED ITSELF WELL.

IT IS UP TO 'THE NEW STANDARD' - VERY ROUND,GOOD BACK,GOOD BREATH ACROSS BOTH EYES AND SKULL.

BEST OLD BIRD HELD ITSELF WELL AND IN VERY GOOD FEATHER AND CONDITION FOR AN OLD BIRD. IT CAME VERY CLOSE TO THE BEST BIRD WHICH HAD SLIGHTLY MORE SUBSTANCE AND WAS A SHADE STEADIER, OTHERWISE A VERY CLOSE SECOND.

Show had many good birds and was well run with good stewards and organisation. The quality of the overall total number of Norwich was not as good as last year. Quite a few birds did not arrive due to bad weather and this was evident. The birds in the top tickets in most classes were good, the rest fell away very quickly. Scottish birds are still not as good in feather or substance as English birds. More people need to exhibit in order to make this show what it was in the past.

On the winners - Best Norwich had good substance, very good type, good colour and feather.

It moved very well and had been well staged, presented, show -trained and showed itself very well - especially when judged for Best In Show. The bird is up to the new standard, being round, having good back, breadth across eyes and skull.

Best Novice was also a very good bird - an Unflighted Yellow Hen. Indeed if there had been an award for Second Best Norwich, this bird would have won it.

Best Old Bird of F. Brimblecombe was also a very good bird and was considered by the judges for the top awards.

The Best Norwich went on to be nominated by five out of six judges to be Best In Show and winner of the British Open Championship.

This is the third year in a row that a Norwich has achieved this: J. Hayton in 2001, F. Brimblecombe in 2002 and now Jack Roby. This has never happened before at Edinburgh, or indeed at any major show.

JUDGES COMMENTS

Show was well run with good stewards and great help from Ken Grigg and Linda Nairn. There were many good birds at the show especially in the buff hen classes. The type and quality of most of the winners was close to the new standard.

The winning bird was a very good example of a yellow cock with excellent feather and colour and it showed many good qualities.

It was hard pressed by the same exhibitor's buff hen which was a very good type bird. Other birds worthy of note were the unflighted variegated yellow cock of Mr and Mrs Blizzard and their unflighted clear yellow hen.

The Scottish birds of J. Henderson, Scott Bellamy, T. McCash and T. Stevenson won several specials and were of good type.

F. Kinnar had some nice birds in the novice section

Many of the birds were in very high condition and didn't show themselves to full advantage when judged. This was especially so of some of the cocks, also some birds were showing neck - ruffs.Overall the show was extremely good and the exhibitors who were present appreciated the huge special list which was on offer.

REPORT ON THE SNPCC (Scottish Norwich)CLUB SHOW HELD AT THE ROYAL HIGHLAND CENTRE EDINBURGH ALONG WITH THE SCOTTISH NATIONAL CBS1/2 jan 2007

The National last year was cancelled although our Club show went ahead very successfully at Kelso. This year we returned to Edinburgh – our venue for many years now. The number of exhibits was much reduced and this is quite serious since our Specials list is second to none. The good news, however, was the outstanding quality of the exhibits. Everybody remarked on the quality of feather, type and size of many of the birds. In many ways, the quality was among the best ever seen at our Club show and is a credit to our members who showed. It reflected the best of the breeder’s art in the care shown to the exhibits.

The Best Norwich was an unflighted variegated buff hen owned by Frank Brimblecombe. This bird virtually judged itself: it was so good in quality and style, a beautifully staged bird. The 2^nd Best Norwich was an over year yellow cock staged also by Frank Brimblecombe. This bird also won the Hutton Trophy for Best Old Bird – a cock of good colour and substance. 3rd Best Norwich was staged by Jack Hayton – an unflighted clear yellow cock. The premier award of our Club is the Warren Park Trophy involving three birds. This went to Ken Grigg who benched lovely quality birds. Tom Stevenson again won Best North of the Border Exhibit with a clear buff unflighted cock. The Best Novice and Best Novice Unflighted Awards were taken by M Din with buff cocks. The leader in the Breeders Stakes Awards was Ken Grigg; Peter Fleming annexed three awards in this part of the Specials list. Best cinnamon and best white were won by Jack Hayton with really nice examples of these colours. The Best Green was awarded to M Watson’s outstanding buff cock. D Street took the award for Best Norwich in the Junior Section, a well-balanced and good coloured bird. He went on to win the Best Junior exhibit in the whole show – the premier awards for a junior! The teams of birds benched by the top exhibitors raised the quality of the show. The highlight for the Norwich section was the winning of the British Open Championship by a Norwich again. Frank Brimblecombe won this with his unflighted buff hen and the same exhibitor also took 5^th place with a mule. This was a really good day for Scottish Norwich members and a memorable achievement.

The judges were Jim Henderson and George Nairn and they did very well picking out very good exhibits. The Conveners were K Grigg, F Kinnar and Chick Watson We thank them again for their continuing, much valued presence and help. Our Club Show needs more exhibits, after all the Special List and the publicity don’t get any better.
